Celebrating Our Successes

I am thrilled and honored to announce that I have been nominated as a finalist in not one, but two categories at the NatWest SE100 Social Business Awards 2024: Leadership and Diversity Pioneer. This recognition means a great deal to me and highlights the incredible work we are doing at You Be You to foster inclusive education and empower marginalised communities.

A Journey Rooted in Resilience

My journey from an immigrant working-class background to a celebrated social entrepreneur has been filled with challenges and triumphs. Growing up, I faced many systemic barriers, but these experiences only strengthened my resolve to make a difference. I founded You Be You with the vision of creating a better path for the next generation of young people, especially those from BME and marginalised backgrounds.

Empowering Through Education

At You Be You, we leverage culturally relevant art education to help young people explore their identities, build resilience, and gain the confidence to challenge stereotypes. Our programs have reached over 11,600 pupils, trained 657 teachers, and engaged 350 parents across 20 schools in the UK. The impact has been profound, with 88% of pupils feeling more confident in their skills and identity, and a 67% increase in reported good mental health.

Creating Content for the Paul Hamlyn Programme

We are currently creating art-based content for our upcoming Paul Hamlyn programme, set to launch this autumn. This initiative will further our mission of empowering young people through art and ensuring that their voices are heard and valued.

Engaging with Educators and Advocates

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the Festival of Education, where I met many passionate educators dedicated to educational equity. It was inspiring to hear speakers discuss the importance of embedding wellbeing into the curriculum, something we deeply care about at You Be You. Additionally, attending the FEA annual summit was a fantastic experience. I loved connecting with so many like-minded individuals and learning about the new priorities, especially Impact Goal Three, which focuses on developing social and emotional competencies, good mental health, and wellbeing in young people.

Looking Ahead

Being recognised as a finalist for the NatWest SE100 awards is a significant milestone, but it is also a reminder of the work that still needs to be done. I am committed to continuing our mission at You Be You and expanding our reach and impact. Together, we can create a more inclusive, equitable future for all young people.

Thank you for your continued support and belief in our vision. Let's keep striving for change and making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

With gratitude and determination,

Bilkis Miah
